Plantigrade - Digitigrade - Unguligrade

The entire pes makes ground contact in the case of the plantigrade human. The digitigrade dog walks on four digits, making ground contact with four digital pads and a single metacarpal pad (7.) The metacarpus/metatarsus is elevated and contributes to limb length. The unguligrade equine makes ground contact with its hoof. The bones of the pes are elevated and elongated to greatly increase limb length.
