Barium swallow radiograph to demonstrate megaesophagus in a one month old Miniature Schnauzer pup. This radiograph was taken 30 minutes after swallowing contrast media. The esophagus (arrows) is dilated and considerable amounts of contrast media (asterisks) remain in the esophagus but none has reached the stomach. After two hours contrast medium was in the stomach but a significant amount was still seen in the esophagus. At a year of age the barium swallow was nearly normal indicating maturation of the esophageal nerve supply.
